Kenneth D. Winters

November 9, 1949 — May 23, 2018

Kenneth D. Winters, Sr., age 68, formally of Indianola, NE, passed away with family by his side on Wednesday, May 23, 2018 at Lakeview Care and Rehabilitation Center where he resided.

Ken was born November 9, 1949 in McCook, NE to parents Avery W. and Evelyn Elizabeth (McBride) Winters.  He was one of six children.  The family made their home near Indianola where Ken attended high school at Indianola, graduating with the Class of 1968.

Dedicated to the service of his country, Ken enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on September 28, 1972.  He proudly served his country as a Marine Corporal during the Vietnam War.  Ken was honorably discharged on September 10, 1974. Following his return from the military, Ken joined his father on the family farm and ranch.

Over the years, Ken sold Pioneer Seed and was an award-winning salesman.  In his free time, he enjoyed hunting and boating on the area lakes with his family.  Following high school, Ken spent time as a horse jockey and enjoyed team pinning and riding his horses.  He will be remembered as a Harley Davidson Motorcycle enthusiast and avid Cornhusker football fan who’s two favorite drinks were Bush Light and Crown Royal.  Ken was always the first person to help anyone in need and he spent countless hours helping with community events.

Ken was especially thankful for the love and support of his family, including Vicki and Dan Ground, over the last several years as Ken battled the effects of his motorcycle accident.  Ken was a member of St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Indianola.

Ken was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Richard Winters; brother in law, Roady Ryan; and sister in law, Tammy Winters.

Those left to mourn his loss are three sons, Ken (Patty) Winters, Jr. of Scotts Valley, CA, Dustin Winters of Juanita, NE and Travis (Maggie) Winters of Parker, CO; brother Scott (Kris) Winters of Cordova, NE; three sisters, Carol (Rodney) Crampton of Riverside, CA, Linda (Lee) Maiden of McCook, NE and Peggy (Bob) Rauch of Lodgepole, NE; sister in law Carla Winters of McCook; seven grandchildren, Victoria, Joshua, Coady, Baylor, Layton, Caleb and Sam.
