Kenny Discoe of McCook was born at North Platte, Neb., on April 29, 1931, to Evangeline (Pattison) and Harry Kenneth Discoe of rural Brady. He died Tuesday, Sept. 15, 2009, at Community Hospital of McCook. He was 78 years old.
Kenny was baptized into the Methodist Church at the Banner Church, rural Gothenburg. He graduated from Gothenburg High School in 1950.
Kenny married Glenice Gaibler of Eustis at the Banner Church on Sept. 21, 1952. To this union, four children were born: Barbara Ann, Connie Jo, Tony Alan and Cindy Lou.
Kenny served in the U.S. Army from 1951 until 1954, driving a half-track and serving as a motor pool sergeant in Korea during the Korean War.
Kenny worked as a brand inspector with the Nebraska Brand Committee for 49 years, a position he held until his death.
Because Kenny enjoyed hobbies with his children, he was a co-leader of the Bit 'n' Spur 4-H horse club, of which his children were members. He also enjoyed all his grandchildren and bragged about their achievements.
Kenny served as pit crew chief and CFO "chief financial officer" for his granddaughter Shannon's cruiser and hobby stock race cars. He enjoyed amateur racing on race tracks in Southwest Nebraska and Northwest Kansas, and NASCAR.
Kenny was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Evangeline Discoe, and a special aunt and uncle, Gertrude and Oren "Pat" Patterson.
He is survived by his wife, Glenice, of McCook; three daughters, Barbara Ann Jauken of Lincoln, Connie Jo Discoe of McCook and Cindy Lou Fritsche and husband Mark of rural Maywood; one son, Tony Alan Discoe of Irvine, Calif.; eight grandchildren, Shannon and husband Craig Bird of Hastings, Nolan Brown and fiancee Courtney Einspahr of McCook, Bethany and Whitney Jauken of Lincoln, Jacob and Justin Discoe of Oceanside, Calif., and Lydia and Von Fritsche of rural Maywood; sisters-in-law, Peg Hastings of Elwood and Janice Crewdson of Lincoln; brother-in-law, Dennis Gaibler and wife Phyllis of Lincoln; and cousins John, Mardi, Pam and Ronnie.
Services were Friday at 2 p.m., at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home, 305 West C, McCook.
Inurnment took place at a later date.
Memorials were to be addressed to the charity or organization of the donor's choice.
Carpenter-Breland Funeral Home of McCook was in charge of arrangements.
