Biography

Lavina M. Palic died Thursday, April 30, 2009 at Hilltop Estates in Gothenburg. She was 94 years old.

On January 19, 1915 in Lincoln County, Nebraska, Lavina was born to Walter and Fannie (Hruza) Buzzell. She graduated from Hayes Center High School in 1934 and lived all her life in the Hayes Center and Wallace area.

Lavina knew true hardships of life from an early age as after her father and brother died, she and her mother were the only ones to maintain the farm & the homestead in Lincoln County.

Lavina and Albin Palic were married in Grant, Nebraska on February 3, 1937. One daughter, Colleen, was born to this union.

She was a faithful reader of her Bible and a loving and caring person to her family and many friends. She worked faithfully beside Albin on their farm and was a great helpmate and blessing for him. When Albin and grandson Kent needed care she was a compassionate and dedicated nurse. She also doctored her dogs when they were in need.

Lavina played the piano and organ, loved cooking, gardening, sewing, quilting and especially her grandchildren and one great grandchild. She was a member of the Church of Christ, and the Harmony Club.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband Albin in September of 1990, and a brother, Clarence.

Survivors include: daughter, Colleen Sellers and husband Wayne of Maywood; grandchildren, Kent & Jarred Fichtner and great-granddaughter, Reilly Fichtner; a niece, Martha Kneuven; three nephews, Richard Petr and wife Lorreta; Raymond Petr and wife Barbara and Daniel Petr.

Memorials are being accepted in her name.

Visitation will be Sunday 4-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Friends may leave condolences at www.carpenterbreland.com for Lavina's family.

Funeral services will be Monday, May 4, at 1:00 p.m. at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home in McCook with Randy Hayes officiating. Burial will be in the Hayes Center Cemetery.
