Leila Fries, age 97, of Culbertson, NE passed away Tuesday, November 6, 2018 at Brookdale Senior Living in McCook, NE.
Leila was born July 19, 1921 to parents Eustache and Theodosia (Korb) High in Danbury, NE. She was one of five children. Leila attended school in Marion.
On January 8, 1939, Leila married the love of her life, Jake Fries, in Hitchcock County, NE. The couple raised their four children on the family farm northwest of Culbertson where hard work and strong family and Christian values were a way of life. The family moved into the town of Culbertson in 1966.
Leila and Jake loved to travel in their RV and saw many beautiful areas of the United States and Canada. Leila was able to accomplish her goal of visiting all 50 states in the US.
Leila was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Culbertson where she taught Sunday School and assisted in the Women’s Club activities. Her church family was so special to her that she would even go on Sundays when she wasn’t supposed to drive. Leila enjoyed playing cards with a group of ladies and also playing card games, puzzles and completing word searches with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Leila was an avid sports fan. She attended many of Culbertson’s sporting events and even traveled to the away games in support of the athletes. She loved her grandchildren and would travel out of state to watch her grandchildren in their sports and activities.
Leila was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jake Fries; son, Richard Fries; four siblings, Roy High, Boyd High, Dorothy Gillen and Agnes Shorey; and grandson, Travis Glasco.
Those left to celebrate her life include two daughters, Vivian (Dean) Land of Culbertson and Bonnie Glasco of Colorado Springs, CO; son, Larry (Ginger) Fries of Parker, CO; ten grandchildren, Tami, Larry, Lori, Sean, Chris, Shannon, Trishell, Nick, Dana and Michael; twenty great grandchildren, Curtis, Andrew, Sierra, Dillon, Garrett, Gracelyn, Colton, Adrienne, Cade, Logan, Alec, Camryn, Skye, Nate, Cody, Ashia, Joslyn, Cally, Jarrett and Justin; five great great grandchildren, Mabel, Rebecca, Leah, Brooklyn and Hailey Rae; as well as a host of extended family members and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are directed to Trinity United Methodist Church, 502 Colorado, Culbertson, NE 69024.
