Leila S. "Miss T" Herzog of Culbertson died Thursday, April 27, 2006 at El Dorado Manor in Trenton. She was 73 years old.
T. was born on November 13, 1932 at Fergus Falls, MN to Olaf H. and Opal Normanda (Rovig) Thorstenson. She graduated from Battle Lake High School. She attended Iowa State College, Kearney State College, and Colorado State College. She earned her Bachelors Degree in secondary education.
On June 5, 1971, she married Edward L. Herzog at McCook. To this union one daughter was born. T. taught in public schools in Iowa and Nebraska as well as being a school counselor for 32 years, retiring in 1989. After her retirement, she became a Mental Health Practitioner at Norton Correction Facility from 1989 to 1994. She was also a mental health support leader for the Nebraska Critical Incidence Stress Management Team.
T. enjoyed being a homemaker and mother. In her free time she enjoyed reading, quilting, crocheting, writing and gardening. She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Other memberships included NSEA, NSEA-R, CISM and CASA.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Olaf and Opal Thorstenson: and adopted grandma, Mabel McDermed.
Survivors include her husband, Ed Herzog of Culbertson; daughter Katherine "Kathy" Herzog of Culbertson; one grandson, Alexander Herzog of Culbertson; one brother, Marlo Thorstenson and wife, Marilyn, of Adams, MN; sister, JoLaine and husband, Earl Hustad, of Battle Lake, MN.
Memorials were to be given in her name to the American Cancer Society.
Rosary was Wednesday, May 3, 7:00 p.m. at Carpenter Breland.
Mass of Christian burial took place Thursday, May 4, 10:00 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church with Father Gary Brethour officiating. Inurnment took place in the Culbertson Cemetery.
Carpenter Breland Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
