Lester Bum A. Malleck, age 88, died Monday, March 17, 2008 at Hillcrest Nursing Home.
He was born March 2, 1920 to Toney and Fay (McCool) Malleck in Indianola. He graduated from Indianola Public School in 1936.
He married Wanda L. Kelly in McCook on April 13, 1949. To this union four children were born. They made their home in south of Indianola, where he farmed and raised cattle. He enjoyed his family and grandchildren.
He was inducted into the U. S. Army on June 23, 1942 and served with the 3rd Infantry serving under General Patton. He received a Purple Heart, and was honorably discharged on May 25, 1944.
He was a member of the Indianola Harris Martin VFW Post # 5826.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Toney and Fay; wife, Wanda on April 17, 2002; brother, Harold; and sister, Beulah.
He is survived by his sons, Griff Malleck and wife, Vickie of McCook, David Malleck and wife, Meredith of Dallas, Texas; daughters, Cathy Warner of Indianola, Pam Nokes and husband, Ray of McCook; brother, Alfred Malleck and wife, Peg of Brighton, Colo; sister, Fay Uerling of Loveland, Colo; five grandchildren, Jeff Hager, Brooke Hager, Sloan Malleck, Garrett Nokes, Justin Nokes; one great grandson, Trevor Nokes.
Memorials were to be given in his name to the Southwest FFA at Indianola.
Funeral services were Friday, March 21, 2008, 10:30 a.m. at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home with Jerry Beckenhauer officiating. Burial took place in the Indianola Cemetery.
Carpenter Breland Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
