Lillian P. Schaffert

May 18, 1920 — November 28, 2007

Lillian P. Schaffert of Indianola, died Wednesday, November 28, 2007 at Community Hospital in McCook. She was 87 years old.

On May 18, 1920 she was born at Zalma, Missouri to James and Nellie (Umfleet) Ladd. She attended Ladd School dist. 78, thru the 8th grade. She enjoyed working out doors on their family farm helping her dad and brothers.

In June 1936 she married Forrest W. Pickett. To this union three children were born Lylis, Wendell and son Jerrell. They moved to Nebraska in 1944 and she supported her family by cooking in a café. She loved her family and gardening canning and baking pies was her speciality.

When her children were raised she worked as a bookkeeper for Merlin Kenfield many years and also served as a waitress at the Elks Club. Lillian married Ervin Schaffert at St. John Lutheran Church February 18, 1971.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband Forrest; a daughter, Lylis Dawn Emrich; a son, Jerrell; three brothers, Charlie, Lowell and Marcus; two half brothers, Willie and Elmer and three half sisters, Opal, Nina and Esther.

Survivors include her husband Ervin; daughter, Wendy Reiners and husband, Jim of Indianola, step-daughters Sharon L. Holst and husband, Larry of Independence, Missouri and Marcia Yannacito and husband, Mick of Arvada, Colorado; son-in-law, Frank Emrich and wife, Linda of Casa Grande, Arizona; daughter-in-law Thelma Pickett of Wessington, South Dakota; sister, Goldie Pickett and two sisters-in-law of Advance, Missouri; 11 grandchildren; 8 step grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren and 9 step-great grandchildren.

Memorial services were Saturday at 3:00 p.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church with Pastor Kevin Schnakenberg officiating.

In lieu of flowers memorials were to be given to KNGN Radio Station or to the donors choice.

Carpenter Breland Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
