Biography

Lionel "Boz" Rene Verraneault, age 84, died Thursday, August 14, 2008 at McCook Community Hospital

He was born to Hormidas and Emma (LaRose) Verraneault on August 11, 1924 in Norwich, Connecticut. He graduated from Plainfield High School in Central Village, Connecticut in 1941.

Lionel served in the United States Army from 1942-1946. During that time he was stationed at the McCook Army Air Base and served as an interpreter in France.

Lionel was united in marriage to Margaret Ely on September 16, 1944, in Oberlin, Kansas. Two children were born to this union. They made their home in McCook where Boz sold shoes for fifty years. He first worked for Gierhart's Shoe Store and then continued as a salesman for Redman's Shoe Store. He purchased the store in 1984 and owned and operated that business until his retirement in August of 1989.

Boz was always ready to talk sports and for many years officiated football and basketball games for schools in the area. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and was their biggest fan.

Preceding him in death were his parents; two sisters Doris Duval and Gertrude LaPorte; and one brother Pete Verraneault.

Survivors are his wife of nearly 64 years, Margaret; children Carol Ommert and husband, Larry of Cambridge and Steve Verraneault and wife Karen of Kearney; brother Jack Verraneault and wife Joanne of Little Rock, Arkansas, and sister Maedora Brouillard of Brooklyn, Connecticut; one granddaughter Andrea and husband Matt Mack of Grand Island; five grandsons, Jeff Ommert of Cambridge; Tim Ommert and wife Chrystal of Auburn; Ryan Ommert of Kansas City, MO; Greg Verraneault and wife Nicole of Omaha; Matt Verraneault of Kearney; and three great grandchildren.

Memorials were to be given in his name.

Funeral services were Monday, August 18, 2008, at Memorial United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. Jeff Thurman officiating. Burial took place in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Carpenter Breland Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
