Lloyd Maynard Helberg

Lloyd Maynard Helberg died Tuesday, November 1, 2005 at Southview Manor Care Center in Cozad. He was 85 years old.

Lloyd was born on November 2, 1919, at Brady, Nebr., to Ralph T. and Anna Grace (Ohlson) Helberg. He attended rural grade school until the eight grade. On January 10, 1942, he entered the US Army and served during World War II. He was honorably discharged on October 12, 1945.

On February 19, 1948, he married Delores M. Helberg at North Platte. They made their home near McCook where they raised their family and Lloyd was a farmer.

He was a member of the McCook Christian Church, Hereford Association and a 4-H leader for many years. He enjoyed his flower garden, music, and spending time with his family.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Ralph and Anna Helberg; step-mother, Grace Helberg; grandson, Mark Hinz; one brother, Roland Helberg; one brother-in-law, Elvin Nelson; two sisters-in-law, Beulah and Donna Helberg and son-in-law, Tim Waddell.

Survivors include his children, Anita and husband, Bob Kuhlman, of Glenrock, WY, Gayle and husband, Jim Bird, of Almena, KS, Doug and friend, John Watson, of Omaha, Eldon and friend, Bill DeKnight, of Traer, KS, Kent Helberg and wife, Melvina, of Blackwell, OK, Jan and husband, Kim Wiemers of McCook, Trudy and husband, Jerry Burkholder, of Bartley and Jay Helberg and wife, Barb, of McCook; mother-in-law, Florence Mercer, of St. Paul; one brother, Stanley Helberg of Oconto; three sisters, Annabelle and husband, Jim Kubicka, of Windsor, CA, Eleanor Nelson and Cora and husband, Morris Devine, all of Gothenburg; 16 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

Memorials were to be given in his name to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Funeral services were Friday, November 4, 2005, 11:00 a.m. at McCook Christian Church with Pastor Clark Bates officiating. Burial took place in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Carpenter Breland Funeral Home of McCook was in charge of the arrangements.
