Lloyd Ivan Redmer, of McCook, died Saturday, March 3, 2007 at Community Hospital. He was 82 years old.
Lloyd was born on December 6, 1924, in Trenton to Herman Otto and Rosa Henrietta Augusta (Steinke) Redmer. He graduated from Trenton High School in 1942.
On June 2, 1943, he entered the US Army and served in New Guinea and Southern Philippines during World War II. He received the World War II Victory Ribbon, Honorable Service Lapel Button, Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal with one Bronze Arrow Head, two Bronze Stars, Philippine Defense Ribbon and Army of Occupation Medal. He was honorably discharged on February 2, 1946. Lloyd returned to the Trenton community after his service time and worked in the local bank.
Lloyd was united in marriage to Lena Marvin Matz on April 25, 1957 in Wolf Point, Montana. They made their home in Colorado where Lloyd was employed by Frontier Airlines as a desk clerk. They eventually moved to Billings, MT and became owners and operators of a motel. Lloyd retired in 1988, after the death of his wife Lena, and moved to Williamsburg, NM. He recently moved to McCook to be closer to family and was living at Willow Ridge at the time of his death.
Lloyd was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and volunteered countless hours at the Moose Lodge while living at Truth or Consequences, NM.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Rosa Redmer; his wife, Lena; one sister, Florence Barth; and five brothers, Otto, Emil, Henry, Louie and Lester Redmer.
Survivors include one niece, Rosalie Madsen-Redden and husband, Robert, of McCook; and three nephews, Lynn Redmer and wife, Judy, of Garden Plain, KS, Bob Redmer and wife, Barb, of Kansas City, MO and Gary Barth and wife, Donna, of Culbertson.
Memorials may be given in his name.
A graveside memorial service was held at Fort McPherson National Cemetery in Maxwell on Friday, April 6, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. with Chaplain Norval Holtmeier officiating. A full honorary committal was held.
Carpenter Breland Funeral Home of McCook was charge of the arrangements.
