Logan J. Hoyt

Logan James Hoyt, a son, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away in a tragic car accident near Columbus, NE on October 29, 2024, at the young age of 33. 

Logan was born to parents Dennis D. and Janice L. (Bell) Hoyt on January 22, 1991, in McCook, NE. Logan grew up with three older brothers in Culbertson, NE. He started school in Culbertson and then went to Herndon from 2nd grade through 8th grade. While there he participated in Jr. High Quiz Bowls, Destination Imagination, football, and basketball. Logan completed his high school education with Tapestry of Grace home school curriculum and taking science, math and English classes at McCook Community College, completing his freshman level collage requirements prior to his high school graduation in 2009. He was active in 4-H from age 9 to 18. He sang in the music contest, spoke in a public speaking contest, showed market lambs, breeding ewes, market steers and breeding heifers. He was so proud of one of his home-raised steer that won Grand Champion carcass. Logan refinished numerous antique tables and an heirloom chest which are still proudly part of his parents' household furniture. He also entered many of his photographs in photography projects with several qualifying for the state fair. 

He attended Doane Collage in Crete, NE for three years, obtaining his Bachelor of Arts degree. While there he spent a fall semester as an intern for Senator Johanns in Washington DC. He furthered his education at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln College of Law. There he completed the Agricultural Law Program of Concentrated Study and obtained his Juris Doctor degree in 2015. January 2019 he also obtained his Nebraska Real Estate License. 

After earning his law degree, he moved to West Point, NE and joined the Tom Donner Law office. He later added Hoyt Real Estate LLC and assisted numerous families to sell their farms by internet bidding. He often traveled the state to represent clients in various cases. He was returning home from a court case when he collided with a grain truck trailer, ending his life. 

Logan was very active in the arts and theater world. He participated in the Southwest Nebraska Community Theater Association in McCook and was on the board for the West Point Community Theater as well as acting in and directing plays in West Point, NE. Some of his favorite plays were, A Christmas Carrol, The Sound of Music, Tons of Money, The Adams Family, The Beverly Hillbillies, and Sipping Saints. Logan sang with the Prairie Statesmen Chorus, receiving the barber shopper of the year award and attended a Barbershop School of Harmony. He Joined with the Kearney Nebraska Barbershop Chorus and competed in international competitions in Denver and Kansas City. He joined with several Kansas Barbershop Choruses to sing in the Prairie Home Companion show broadcast live at the Kansas State Fair. Logan sang in the Doane Collage Choir, and the Choraliers in West Point, NE. He also enjoyed photography with both his still camera and his drone. He often took pictures to help advertise his client’s farm and home properties, with his drone for his real estate business. 

Logan, at a young age, surrendered his life to Christ Jesus, became born again, and entered the family of God. Logan, with his family, attended the Bethel Missionary Church in Culbertson, NE, which is now the New Life Fellowship of Culbertson, NE. He loved the Lord but was not affiliated with a specific congregation after leaving home. 

Logan will be remembered for his ready smile, laugh, storytelling, friendship and willingness to help. 

He is proceeded in death by paternal grandparents, James and Wyona Hoyt and maternal grandparents, W. Glen and Muriel Bell. 

Those left to celebrate Logan’s life are his parents, Dennis and Janice Hoyt of Culbertson, NE. Brothers Nathan (Trina) Hoyt of Culbertson, NE, Andre (Rebecca) Hoyt of Gretna, NE, and Jeremy (Danae) Hoyt of Crowley, CO; he is also survived by aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

West Point Community Theater Group held a memorial service for Logan in West Point, NE on November 3rd to celebrate his life. 

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, at 11:00 AM at the New Life Fellowship Church in Culbertson, NE. Lunch at the church to follow. Inurnment service at the Stone Church Grove Cemetery south of Culbertson at 1:30. Pastor Rick Bradley officiating.
