Loren Albert Engler, age 94, of McCook, NE went into the arms of the Lord, with his family by his side, and in the comfort of his home on Friday, February 7, 2025.
Loren was born June 12, 1930, in Anaconda, MT to parents Albert and Lola I (Beals) Engler. He was one of five children. Loren attended high school through the tenth grade and then finished his GED while he served in the in the United States Army. He proudly served his country from 1947 until 1949 when he was Honorably Discharged.
On May 30, 1961, Loren married the love of his life, Ardis L. (Nelson) Engler in Grant, NE. The couple was blessed with a daughter, Deb. McCook became home for Loren and Ardis several years ago, moving to be closer to Deb and family.
Loren and Ardis farmed for many years near Elsie, NE. Loren is credited with building one of the first pivot irrigation system in western Nebraska, a practice he used on his own farm. Loren also opened the Standard Oil Station in Paxton, NE which he owned and operated for several years.
Stemming from his love for the outdoors, Loren enjoyed fishing and hunting, gardening and spending time at the lake, boating and water skiing. He had a soft spot for animals and loved to play cards and attend poker club. Loren was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Ogallala, NE and a faithful attendee of the Evangelical Free Church in McCook.
Loren was preceded in death by his parents; as well as his siblings, Richard (Mary Lou) Engler, Kim (Harry) Summers, Marilyn (Leon) Becker and Sherry Will.
Those left to celebrate his life include his wife, Ardis Engler of McCook, NE; daughter, Deb (Jeff) Moorhous of McCook, NE; brother in law, Bill Will of WA; two grandchildren, Tiffany (Kirk) Magee of Culbertson, NE and Jennifer Tucker of McCook, NE; four great grandchildren Kaylee, Sean, Chloe, Bree Manley and two great-great grandchildren DeVonte, and DeAnthony Lee. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions are suggested to McCook Home Health and Hospice, 301 East H Street, McCook, NE 69001.
A visitation with family greeting friends will be held from 5 to 7pm on Wednesday, February 12, 2025 at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home , McCook.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 13, 2025 at the Evangelical Free Church, McCook, with Pastor Jeff Donelan officiating.
Burial with Military Honors will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, McCook.
