Loretta Mary Leitner

Loretta Mary Leitner died Thursday, October 26, 2006, at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook. She was 90 years old.

She was born, September 19, 1916 to Mathias Henry and Emma Mary (Kleidosty) Berger on the family farm northwest of Herndon, Kansas. She graduated from Herndon High School in 1934.

She married Raymond Claude Leitner in Herndon and they made their home on the family farm where she was born. To this union, three children were born, James, Sandi, and Randy. Loretta taught in Rawlins County Country Schools and later worked as a teller at the State Bank of Herndon until retirement.

She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Christian Mother Altar Society and was a Eucharistic minister and lecturer. She enjoyed attending the Kansas State Fair, gardening, embroidery, knitting, her grandchildren and their many activities.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mathias and Emma Berger; husband, Raymond Leitner in 1981; great-grandson, Cade Chapman; grandson-in-law, Greg Chapman; one sister, Monica Meyer; one brother, Raymond Berger and wife, Alvina; and brothers-in-law, William Springer and Francis Kompus.

Survivors include her two sons, James Leitner and wife, Kathy, of Littleton, Colo., Randy Leitner and wife, Jacque, of Herndon, Kan; daughter Sandi Baxter and husband, Milton, of McCook; two sisters, Margie Howland and husband, Larry, of Thornton, Colo. and Florence Springer of Greeley, Colo.; seven grandchildren, Shelley Leitner of Omaha, Robb Leitner and wife, Gay, of McCook, Derek Leitner and wife, Piaf, of Seattle, Wash., Lorissa and husband, Rick Williams, of Canyon, Tex., Sheralee Leitner of Dallas, Tex., Cody Leitner and wife, Andi, of Perry, Okla., and Megan Leitner of Dallas, Tex.; and seven great-grandchildren.

Memorials were to be given in her name.

Rosary took place Sunday, October 29, 2006, 7:00 p.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Herndon, Kan. Mass of Christian Burial was Monday, October 30, 2006, 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary's with Rev. Galen Long as celebrant. Burial in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery.

Carpenter Breland Funeral Home of McCook and Williams Funeral Home of Atwood were in charge of the arrangements.
