Loretta Alice Schilz

Loretta Alice Schilz of McCook passed away Wednesday, February 27, 2013 at Hillcrest Nursing Home. She was 89 years old.

Loretta was born in Cambridge, Nebraska to parents, John Charles and Elizabeth Alice (Hougnon) Jones. She graduated from Cambridge High School in 1940.

On February 5, 1948 she was united in marriage to William Robert “Bill” Schilz. They made their home in McCook where they owned and operated Schilz Jewelry. Loretta was a busy homemaker and mother to her six children as well as occasionally helping out at the jewelry store.

Loretta was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Altar Society and choir. She enjoyed traveling and going to the horse races with her husband. Other interests included reading, working cross word puzzles, and cooking. She especially loved the time spent with her children and grandchildren.

Preceding her in death was her devoted husband of 65 years, Bill Schilz who passed away on February 20, 2013; her parents, John and Elizabeth Jones; and two sisters, Bernadine Jones and Mary Heskett.

Survivors include her son, John Schilz and wife, Mei Li, of Fremont, CA; five daughters, Jane and husband, Michael Walker, of Elm Creek, NE, Anne and husband, Marvin Roth, of Colorado Springs, CO, Rita and husband, Kenneth Magdanz, of Heron, MT, Donna and husband, Patrick Pelster, of North Platte, and Alice and husband, Rodney McKillip of McCook; 14 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be given in her name.

Visitation will be Friday, March 1, 2013, from 1-8:00 p.m. at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home in McCook. Friends may send condolences to the family at www.carpenterbreland.com

The rosary will be recited Friday, March 1, 2013, 8:30 p.m., at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, March 2, 2013, 11:00 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in McCook. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
