Lyle Dean Blauvelt, age 82, passed away Friday, April 22, 2016 at Community Hospital in McCook.
Lyle was born May 14, 1933 in Holbrook, NE to Harry Blauvelt and Verna Graning.
Lyle entered the US Army on June 15, 1954 and was honorably discharged on May 29, 1956.
On May 14, 1957 Lyle married Rosalie Wendland in Arapahoe, NE. One son, Jay, was born to this union.
He drove truck for American Van Lines and then worked for the state of Nebraska, and then he had the Shelter insurance agency for many years.
Throughout his life, Lyle enjoyed fishing, hunting, traveling and playing with his dogs. He also enjoyed bowling, where he served on the men’s bowling league board. Lyle was a country music DJ for the radio station, KBRL. He was a member of the Peace Lutheran Church and a lifelong VFW member, also a past member of the McCook Eagles and Elks Club. Lyle was an avid Husker and Kansas City Royals fan.
Survivors include his son, Jay (Melissia) Blauvelt of McCook, NE; brother, Paul (Linda) Blauvelt of Holdrege, NE; sisters, Lila Mae Ellis, Harriet (Larry) Hornaday, and Thelma (Charles) Dunlap all of Kearney, NE; sister-in-law, Valerie Blauvelt of McCook, NE; grandson, Trevor Bourg of Waterloo, IA; granddaughter, Malynn Bourg and great-granddaughter, Larae Bourg both of Stevensville, MT.
Lyle was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Verna; wife, Rosalie; brother, Jack Blauvelt; infant sister, Ruth; and sister, Doris Turvey.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, April 26, 2016 at the Peace Lutheran Church with Pastor Tom Albertson, officiating. Inurnment will be in Arapahoe Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be designated in Lyle’s name.
Carpenter Breland Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
