Margaret Dorothea Neel

Margaret Dorothea Neel, age 85, of McCook, NE passed away Saturday, March 2, 2013 at Community Hospital in McCook.

Margaret was born in rural Red Willow County on the family farm February 20, 1928 to Forrest E. and Fannie (Duckworth) Barber. She was one of three children.

Margaret graduated from Red Willow High School in 1946 and on July 22 that same year she married her high school sweet heart Stanley Neel in McCook. The couple made their home and raised a family on the farm between McCook and Indianola.

Margaret was active in the Indianola Church of Christ, she was a member of Farm Bureau and volunteered for the Blood Mobile. She enjoyed gardening and crocheting but most of all hosting family and friends for meals and fellowship. Margaret was born at the beginning of the ”Dirty Thirties” and related the stories and lessons learned from growing up in “hard times”. She was a hard worker able to help with the farm work and feed a crew all in the same day.

Margaret is preceded in death by her parents, husband Stanley, son Russell, and brother Charles.

Margaret is survived by her three children Richard and wife Joyce Neel of McCook, NE, Donald and wife Patricia Neel of McCook, NE, and Carlyn and husband David Burkholder of North Platte, NE; and one sister Lois and husband Neal Thomas of Lincoln, NE. Also surviving are eleven grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, March 5, 2013 from 1 to 8 p.m. with family present to greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at Carpenter-Breland Funeral Home in McCook.

Funeral service will be held Wednesday, March 6, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at the McCook Christian Church with Jerry Beckenhauer, officiating. Burial will follow in the Indianola Cemetery.

Memorials may be made in Margaret’s Name.
