Marie Katheryn Daffer

Marie Katheryn Daffer, age 98, of McCook, NE passed away peacefully on July 26, 2021 at her home at Kinship Pointe in McCook.

Marie was born November 11, 1922 in Denton, TX to parents Teddie B. and Hazel L. (Stover) Rue.  She was one of three children born to this union.  Marie attended school in Texas, graduating from Sanger High School in 1940. She then went on to further her education by attending business school in Dallas.

On November 3, 1943, Marie married Robert “Bob” Daffer in San Antonio, Texas.  The couple was blessed with three children: Robert Jr., Daniel and Kathie.  Following Bob’s Honorable Discharge from the Army, the family moved to Nebraska, Bob’s home state.

Marie won the 1955 district three Mrs. America contest in part for her German Sweet Chocolate cake entry as well as demonstrating her homemaker skills.  The prizes of a new stove, set of pots and pans and water heater were just what the newlyweds needed. Marie enjoyed being a homemaker; cooking, sewing and gardening were some of her specialties. Her green thumb could make anything grow and there wasn’t a creature, big or small, on the farm she didn’t love.  Marie also enjoyed traveling with her family and was an avid Husker Sports Fan. She loved to watch volleyball, basketball and football.  Marie was a member of the Jolly Homemaker’s Club as well as an active member of the Lebanon Presbyterian Church.

Marie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert Daffer; son, Robert Daffer, Jr.; and her sister, Dorothy Edwards.

Those left to celebrate her life include her children, Daniel (Janet Stephens) Daffer of Denver, CO and Kathie (Dan) Turley of Valley Center, KS; daughter in law, Marilyn Daffer of Independence, MO; brother, Teddie (Martha) Rue of Sanger, TX; seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
