Marilyn Ann Horn

March 24, 1942 — October 13, 2016

Marilyn Horn, 74, of Oberlin, Kansas passed away October 13th, 2016 following her courageous battle with cancer.

Born March 24th, 1942, to parents Marvin A. & Catherine (Branen) Fuller; Marilyn was one of three children growing up in Clearwater, Nebraska where she attended and graduated from high school.

On June 10th, 1962, in Clearwater, Marilyn married the love of her life, Stephen Horn. The family was blessed with three children: Douglas, Diana & Darren and in 1981, they made their home in Oberlin after moving from Denver, Colorado to become house parents at Cookson Hills.

Throughout the years, Marilyn worked in County Government as both a Decatur County Clerk from 1986 to 2009 and recently as an Oberlin City Council Member. Marilyn was also involved in various professional women’s business organizations throughout her career.  She dedicated her life to giving back to the community and served as a volunteer at the Good Samaritan Society in Oberlin for more than 30 years.

Marilyn faithfully attended as a member of McCook Christian Church, where she enjoyed playing the piano.

Marilyn is preceded in death by her parents Marvin & Catherine Fuller and her sister, Doris Weigand. She is survived by her loving husband, Stephen Horn; two sons, Douglas Horn of Oberlin, Darren (Cynthia) Horn of Kersey, Colorado; daughter, Diana (Weston) Wilson of Parker, Colorado; brother, Donald Fuller of Grand Island, Nebraska; and her three grandchildren: Hannah Pratt, Dustin Horn & Kyle Horn.

Visitation will be held on Monday October 17th, 2016 at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home in McCook, Nebraska starting at 1pm and concluding at 8pm. A funeral service honoring Marilyn’s life will be held on Tuesday, October 18th, 2016 at 2:00 pm, officiated by Pastor Clark Bates at McCook Christian Church. Burial will follow the service at the Oberlin Cemetery, in Oberlin, Kansas.
