Marjorie E. Carter

December 11, 1927 — April 10, 2020

Marjorie Ellene Carter, age 92, formerly of Stratton, NE passed away at Community Hospital, McCook, NE, on Friday, April 10, 2020.

Marjorie was born December 11, 1927 at home in Stratton to parents William J and Ida Evelyn Powell.  Marjorie was one of four children who grew up in Stratton, where she also attended school.  Marjorie graduated from Stratton High School with the Class of 1945.

Marjorie married Lee Carter, of Palisade, NE on June 21, 1953 in Stratton.  They became the proud parents of two sons, Leslie Jon and Robin, and made their home in Stratton.  Marjorie loved cooking and baking, and she was very good at it. She loved sharing her German Chocolate cakes with friends, family, church get togethers and funeral dinners.  Over the years, she baked hundreds of these cakes for everyone.  She also made the best pecan caramel cinnamon rolls.  Marjorie loved gardening, canning and raising beautiful flowers.  She raised her two sons with love and wisdom, losing son Jon when he was just 15 years old due to illness.  His death was extremely hard for her.  Marjorie enjoyed her grandchildren and considered them a blessing in her life.

Marjorie was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church in Stratton as well as a member of the UMW. She became a member of the Eastern Star at age 18.  Marjorie was always on the go, attending many area church activities and visiting friends and relatives.  She used Jon’s memorial funds to purchase bells for a bell choir at the Stratton Methodist Church.  She also helped purchase an oven for the church kitchen.

Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lee Carter in 2012; son, Leslie Jon Carter in 1980; brothers, William J and Robert E Powell; and a sister, Mabel L. Walter.

Those left to celebrate her life include her son, Robin (Keri) Carter of Bird City, KS; two grandchildren, Rebecca Lee (Billy) Clingman of Bennington, NE and Dr. Michael (Christine) Carter, M.D. of Zionsville, IN; two great grandchildren, Kaelyn Elise and Ian Fredrick Clingman; as well as extended family members and lifelong friends.
