Marlan Vernon Dooley, age 71, of McCook, NE passed away at his home in McCook on March 8, 2021.

Marlan was born to Ivan and Marie (Boyer) Dooley on July 7, 1949 in Mullen, NE.  He lived on the family ranch north of Mullen until the age of eight when his parents moved to Trenton, NE.  There they owned and operated the Soo-Paw Motel until his father’s death in December 1964.

Marlan attended Trenton Public Schools until moving to Mullen in June 1965, where he graduated with the Class of 1967.  Marlan enlisted in the US Air Force in August 1968 during the Vietnam War.  After completing boot camp at Amarillo AFB, TX, he was assigned to Lowry AFB, Denver, CO.  From there he was stationed at Luke AFB, AZ.

On March 27, 1971, Marlan married Linda (Little) Dooley at the United Methodist Church in Mullen. The couple was blessed with three daughters: Traci, Tami, and Trisha.  The family moved to Aurora, CO for six weeks where Marlan was again assigned to Lowry AFB before being deployed overseas in June to Hofn AFB, Iceland.  In June 1972, Marlan was stationed at Ellsworth AFB, Rapid City, SD and in September 1973, he was assigned to DET 10 Bomb Scoring Site in Hastings, NE.

Following Marlan’s discharge from the Air Force in March 1975, he went to work as the Sandhills Clinic Director in Mullen until moving to Lexington, NE in May 1980. In 1984, they moved to McCook NE where they owned and operated a state-wide passenger transport company from 2000 to 2018.

Marlan enjoyed watching stock car races, fishing and spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was a member of the Methodist Faith.

Marlan was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Matthew James Wiemers; brothers in law, Mervin Schoenberg and Douglas Phipps; and his nephew, Kyle Schoenberg.

Those left to celebrate his life include his wife of fifty years, Linda Dooley of McCook; daughters, Traci (Matt) Wiemers and Tami (David) Earhart, all of McCook, and Trisha (Seth) Weyeneth of Cedar Bluffs, KS; grandchildren, Marcus Golden, Ahria and Benjamin Dominguez, Brynn Golden, Josiah Weyeneth, and Natalie Weyeneth; step grandchildren, Tony Earhart and Katherine Earhart; sisters, Alice Phipps of Mullen, Beth Hammond and Trila Schoenberg, both of Cheyenne, WY; brother, Ron (Leann) Dooley of Cheyenne; brother in law, Dan (Lenora) Little of Maple Grove, MN; and sister in law, Eula (Bryon) Klapal of Castle Rock, CO; as well as nieces, nephews and extended family members.
