Mary Williamson

July 6, 1922 — September 6, 2016

Mary Williamson of Torrington, Wyoming passed away September 6, 2016 at Goshen Healthcare Community in Torrington. She was 94 years old.

Born July 6, 1922 in Abingdon, Illinois, Mary was one of seven children. Andrea and Angelina (Armondo) Pica raised their family in Abingdon where Mary graduated from high school in 1939.

On January 10, 1942, Mary wed the love of her life, William Doug Williamson, in Abingdon.  The couple was blessed with three children; Peggy, Mary Kay and Michael.

Doug and Mary moved numerous times throughout the years, often due to Doug’s employment with the railroad.  The family settled in McCook, NE in 1976 where Doug worked as the Assistant Superintendent of Transportation and Administration for the Burlington Northern Railroad.

While living in McCook, Mary faithfully attended St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and was a member of the St. Pats Altar Society and prayer chain.  She spent time volunteering at the nursing home, enjoyed china painting and was a Cub Scout Leader.

Mary will be remembered for her outgoing personality; she never knew a stranger.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Doug Williamson in 1986; her daughter and son in law, Peggy (Dick) Bilstein; three brothers, Louis Pica, Joe Pica and Gabe Pica; and her two sisters, Agnes and Lena.

Those left to mourn her passing are her daughter, Mary Kay (Ed) O’Dell of Torrington, WY; son, Michael Williamson of Ft. Worth, TX; her sister, Catherine Salyards of Williamsburg, VA; as well as six grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.

A Rosary will be recited at 7PM on Sunday, September 11, 2016 at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home in McCook.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, September 12, 2016 beginning at 10:30 AM at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in McCook with Father Gary Brethour serving as Celebrant.

Mary will be laid to rest next to her husband, Doug, in Calvary Cemetery, McCook, following the service.

Memorial contributions are being accepted in Mary’s name and are suggested to St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 409 East F Street, McCook, NE 69001 or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
