Mildred E. McMains, age 96 of Trenton passed away, Friday June 17, 2016 at the El Dorado Manor in Trenton, Nebraska

Mildred was born in Stratton, Nebraska on May 15, 1920 to Elmer and Ethel (Hitchcock) Ridpath the second of three daughters born to this union.

Mildred graduated from McCook High School in the class of 1937.  She married Virgil McMains on February 15, 1941 in Colby, Kansas.  To this union one daughter Joyce was born.

In 1962 Mildred obtained her Bachelor’s degree from Ft. Hays State College in Hayes, Kansas and began a 35 year teaching career, which included 25 years in McCook.  She also taught in Oberlin, Danbury, and Perry.

Mildred was a member of the Memorial United Methodist Church in McCook.  She was also a member of the Nebraska State Education Association, and the National Teachers Association.

Mildred is survived by her daughter Joyce and husband Darrell Werner of Lincoln, NE,  brother-in-law Raymond Berndt of McCook, NE.  Also surviving is a grandson Jeff Werner of Lincoln, NE and several nieces and nephews.

Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters Hazel Kahl and Dorothy Berndt, one granddaughter Krissa Werner.

Visitation will be held Wednesday June 22, 2016 from 9 a.m. to 12 noon at Carpenter-Breland Funeral Home in McCook.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Carpenter-Breland Funeral Home with Pastors Cheryl & Phil Neely, officiating.  Burial will follow in the Riverview Cemetery in McCook.

Memorials are suggested to the Special Olympics of Nebraska 9427 F St. Omaha, NE  68127.
