Mildred Stratman

Mildred “Millie” A. Stratman died Tuesday, December 21, 2004 at Hillcrest Nursing Home. She was 84 years old.

She was born October 2, 1920 to Louis John and Susan Anna (O’Dea) Colling at McCook. She graduated from Red Willow High School in 1938. She lived in this area all her life.

Prior to WWII service she taught school in various Red Willow County School Districts. She entered the U.S. Navy in 1943 and was honorably discharged as a Pharmacist Mate 3rd Class in 1945.

On June 12, 1946 she married Alfred A. Stratman in McCook. To this union three children were born.

She and her husband were custodians at Red Willow/Republican Valley Schools for nearly 28 years; She was a columnist for the Indianola News for close to 20 years; a Pink Lady at McCook Community Hospital and had worked at Hillcrest Nursing Home for a time.

She was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and Alter Society, the American Legion Auxiliary and Circle 12 Club and had been a long time member of the Friendly Neighbors Club.

Preceded in death by her parents; and husband on August 14, 1987; and brothers, Bernard and Donald.

Survivors include: two sons, Edward and wife Carolyn of Arvada, CO and Michael of Pompano Beach , FL; a daughter, Susan O’Neal and husband Russell of Grand Junction, CO;
three brothers, Harold of Wichita, KS, George and wife Goldie of Augusta, KS., and Joseph and wife Bernadine of LaCrosse, WI.; three sisters, Lucille Hill of Seattle, WA., Delores Clifton of McCook and Marjorie Malleck and husband Gene of McCook; 6 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be given in her name to St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.

Rosary will be Wednesday December 29, 2004 at 7 p.m. at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, December 30th, 10 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in McCook with Father Jerrel Scholl officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in McCook. .

Visitation will be Tuesday until 5 p.m.and Wednesday until time of Rosary. Friends may also go online at www.carpenterbreland.com to extend condolences.
