Minnie R. "Chic" Ahrens, of McCook, died Saturday, June 10, 2006 at the Great Plains Medical Center in North Platte. She was 96 years old.
Chic was born on August 2, 1910 at Havanna, NE to Albert and Mary Rousella (Betz) Herron. She lived most of her life in the McCook community with the exception of a short time in the Ozarks. She was a homemaker and a single mother of three, she worked for McCook businesses until she retired at 65.
She was a faithful member of the Veteran's of Foreign Wars Auxiliary. Some of her interests included gardening, both vegetables and flowers. But most of her spare time was spent in volunteer work to benefit Veterans.
Chic will be remembered for her easy smile and positive outlook on life and friends. Her family extended well beyond her official relatives to include the Fisher family and many others.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Albert and Mary Herron; two children, Albert "Bud" Herman and Francis Henry, Jr.; one grandson, Dusty Lee Ahrens; four brothers; and three sisters.
Survivors include her son, Jim Ahrens of McCook; daughter, Jackie Ahrens of McCook; 10 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be given in her name to the VFW Auxiliary for Veteran's Programs.
Funeral services were Tuesday, June 13, 10:30 a.m. at Carpenter Breland Chapel with Terry McCorkle officiating. Burial took place in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Carpenter Breland Funeral Home of McCook was in charge of the arrangements.
