Murl Lavern Lavery died Monday, November 27, 2006 at Hillcrest Nursing Home. He was 85.
Murl was born to Edwin C. and Mary E. “Lizzy” (Bowden) Lavery at home north of Overton on June 5, 1921. He attended District #42. He farmed with his father and brother until he married Bethine Bea Blakeslee on March 26, 1949 in the Methodist church in Lexington by Rev. L.R. Davis. They farmed north of Overton, then in 1962 west of Sumner and in 1976 north of Wauneta. They moved to McCook in 1990. He enjoyed farming, fishing and planting bushes.
He was preceded in death by his mother on January 16, 1930; his father on October 1, 1978; step-mother Myrle on March 1, 1988; granddaughter Ashley Marie Lavery on July 28, 1988; sister Cleda Eileen Lahm on February 28, 1997; brother Nile Wayne Lavery on October 20, 1999; daughter-in-law, Dianne Ruth Imel Lavery on December 24, 2001; sister-in-law, Lucene Lea (Blakeslee) Miller on June 6, 2000 and husband, Gordon Miller on Nov. 23, 2003.
He is survived by wife, Bethine of McCook; two daughters, Lana Lou Ator of Colorado Springs, Colo. and Shirley Ann Johnson of McCook; two sons, Lloyd Lee Lavery and companion, Rose Lockhorn, of McCook and Blake Allen Lavery and wife, Pat, of Holdredge; sister, Reta Johnson and husband, Larry, of Lincoln; nine grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; and many relatives and friends.
Memorials were to be given in his name.
Funeral services were Friday, December 1, 2006, at 1:30 p.m. at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home with Jerry Beckenhauer officiating. Burial took place at Memorial Park Cemetery.
Carpenter Breland Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
