Murray Eugene "Gene" Stinnett, age 81, passed away Friday, December 07, 2012 at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook.
He was born July 28, 1931 to parents, Murray Barclay and Laura Elizabeth (Bickford) Stinnett at Oklahoma City, OK. He graduated from Bell High School, Lakewood, CA in 1948. On April 13, 1977, he was united in marriage to Evelyn Ruth Lafferty Hofman in Reno, NV.
Gene worked for Powering Oil Company in Long Beach, CA. He later moved to Springfield, OR where he worked for Lane Community College in maintenance and was a self-employed locksmith. After his retirement in 1993, he and Evelyn moved back to the McCook community.
He was a member of the Steel Workers Association, National Rifleman's Association, and life time member of the Elk's Lodge. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. He had a passion for antique radios and locks and loved all kinds of sports.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Murray and Laura Stinnett.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Stinnett of McCook; son, Randy Hofman of McCook; one brother; two nieces and one nephew.
Memorial services will be Wednesday, December 19, 2012, 2:00 p.m. at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home with Pastor John Strecker-Baseler officiating. Inurnment will be held at a later time in the Danbury Marion Cemetery.
Memorials may be given in his name.
