Naomi Ellen Bauer

Naomi Ellen Bauer, 86, of Lincoln, formerly of McCook, died Sunday (July 15, 2007) at the Ambassador Nursing Home.

Born Jan. 9, 1921, in Blue Hill to Millard and Ellen (Bloomgren) Stark, Naomi was a graduate of Blue Hill High School and Kearney State Teachers College. She started her teaching career in Campbell and moved to Beaver City and Culbertson before finally settling in at Trenton. She taught secondary business classes and was the school's guidance counselor. She found a great deal of satisfaction in helping students prepare for furthering their education after high school graduation.

She met her husband, Kenneth Henry Bauer while teaching in Culbertson. They were married Dec.18, 1945. After teaching for 35 years, she and Kenneth, a farmer/rancher, retired in 1981, and moved to McCook.

Besides teaching she raised two children, was a homemaker, gardener, member of the Methodist Church, PEO, Delta Kappa Gamma and was an avid reader. Naomi treasured the many students she taught and watched grow during and after her teaching career. She also highly valued her colleagues, friends, family, and neighbors. A special mention for her beloved cat, Cali; that was always there for her.

Survivors include two children, Carol Casey of Lawrence, Kan., and Steven Bauer of Lincoln; nieces, Lonnie Knudsen and husband, John, Pam Shirk and husband, Lamont; nephew, Mike Korth and wife, Jean; grand-nephews, Chris and Jason Knudsen, Pat, Jim and Erick Korth and Justin and Spencer Shirk.

Naomi was preceded in death by her parents, sister and husband.

Memorial contributions are to the McCook Humane Shelter in her name.

Funeral services were on Thursday at Memorial United Methodist Church in McCook. Burial took place in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Carpenter Breland Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
