Opal Pearl Gillen, 89, died Thursday, March 10, 2005 at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook.
On October 26, 1915 she was born in Edgar to George and Margaret Seals. She was raised in the area and graduated in 1933 from Havana High School.
She went to teachers college in Lincoln and taught for two years.
She married Lloyd Gillen August 3, 1936 in Indianola. They lived in McCook all their married lives. Lloyd died in 1986.
Opal worked at Komac Paint for 19 years. She enjoyed her yard and flowers, crocheting, ceramics and reading.
She is survived by two children, Roger C. Gillen and wife Cynthia of Littleton, Colorado; a daughter Marilyn K. Haith and special friend Ronald Ruhe of Grand Island; a brother, Alfred Seals and wife Wanda of McCook; a sister Bonnie David and husband Earl of Pendleton, Oregon; seven grandchildren, Brian, Lori, Craig, Cindy, David, Martin & Michael; and eight great-grandchildren, Ross, Ashley, Zach, Audrey, Amber, Austin, T.J. and Drew.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Lloyd in 1986; a brother Archie and three sisters, Leota, Georgia and Dorothy.
She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church.
Memorials were accepted in her name.
Rosary was Tuesday at 7 p.m at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial was Wednesday, February 16, 2005 at 10 a.m. at St. Pat's Catholic Church with Father Gary Brethour officiating. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery.
Carpenter Breland Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
