Opal Lorance, 94, died at Highland Park Thursday, June 10, 2010.
She was born March 30, 1916 to Ernest Allen and Daisy Pearl (Boston) Admire. Opal attended grade school at Benkelman, NE and high school at Stratton, NE.
She was united in marriage to Alvin John Lorance on June 19, 1935. They had three children
Janice Elaine Wieck, Carolyn Irene Ellis, and Alvin Dale Lorance,
Opal was a member of the Methodist Church and of the Eastern Star. She worked at the Hester Nursing Home in Benkelman and at the Benkelman Independent Grain Elevator. She and her husband played for dances in the 30s and 40s. During their later years Opal traveled with her husband to fiddling contests throughout the western states. Her hobbies included crocheting, bowling and playing cards. Opal also learned to pilot an airplane.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Ernest and Daisy Admire; her husband, Alvin Lorance; a sister, Pearl Manning; five brothers, Henry, Allen, Randolph. Walter, and Nyle, Admire; and son-in-law, Dr. Kenneth Ellis.
Opal is survived by her children, Janice Wieck of Wichita, KS, Carolyn Ellis of McCook, and Alvin Dale Lorance and wife, Connie, of Panhandle, TX; 11 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends.
A private graveside service for the immediate family was held at the Benkelman Cemetery.
Carpenter Breland Funeral Home of McCook was in charge of the arrangements.
