Dale McNutt passed away on January 20, 2020 at Arapahoe, NE. Dale was born to Charles & Iva (Tirrill) McNutt on March 30, 1926 in McCook, NE.
He spent the 1st year of his life in McCook, then the family moved to a farm north of Hayes Center, NE. Dale attended and graduated from Hayes Center School in 1944. Upon completion of his basic training at Fort Sill, OK he traveled on the Queen Elizabeth to meet up with the 974/975th Field Artillery Battalion in Germany, crossing the Rhine River on his 19th Birthday. He was near Linz Austria and was part of the liberation of Munchausen Concentration Camp at the end of the war. He then served another year driving back and forth between Regensburg and Nuremberg, Germany.
After coming back to Nebraska he helped farm with his Dad and Uncles north of McCook. In the mid 50’s he moved to Citrus Heights, CA taking a job at AeroJet. While in CA he met a widow with 5 kids. He married Evalynn Cullison Hatch on January 19, 1957.
In 1959 the farm called him back to Nebraska. The family moved north of McCook and farmed until 1979. Dale then worked at Dayco until retiring. He and Evalynn also were weather observers at McCook Airport for several years.
In 2008, Dale had the honor of being chosen for the October Heartland Honor Flight Trip to Washington, DC. Then in 2019, he was selected to take a flight in a biplane sponsored by Dream Flights.
He loved working the hayfields, woodworking, flying, listening to RFD TV, going to his coffee group, exercising at the YMCA, and being the chaplain at the VFW a few years.
He is preceded in death by: His parents, His wife Evalynn, Sister Lorene Kordenbrock, Son Lennie Hatch, Daughter Terry Talle Ahlman, Grandsons Ron Hatch & Alex Cook, Son-in-laws Doug Talle and Jerry Harris; Many brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws
Dale is survived by his daughters: Pat (Harold) Yost of Wilsonville, NE; Jeannie (Ken) Miller of Longmont, CO; Ina Harris of Lincoln, NE; Anita (Jim) Lytle of McCook, NE; and Lori (Steve) Adkins of Wood River, NE; 16 grandchildren and spouses; 31 great grandchildren and spouses; 14 great-great grandchildren and a few on the way. Brother Larry McNutt of Wauneta, NE and Sister Ardis (Joe) Moreau of Bonney Lake, WA, Sister-In-Law Alice Yoho of Fair Oaks, CA; Honorary Daughter Maggie Mae (Roger) Hillard of Oxford, WI; Extended family: Irene & Jim Lemons, Keith & Gloria Shepherd, Mo Khamouna & his Oxford, WI family and friends. Numerous Cousins, Nieces and Nephews and Friends that he considered family.
