Biography

Pauline B. Fossen, 83, of Indianola, died Tuesday (Feb. 3, 2004) at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook.

She was born March 30, 1920, to John and Anna (Lalley) Stritt in Indianola. She graduated from Indianola High School in 1936 and attended Kearney State Teachers College. She taught in Red Willow rural schools for many years. She also worked in the prisoner of war camps.

On Oct. 17, 1945, she married Henry M."Hank" Fossen in Indianola. The couple made their home in Indianola.

She was a member of St. Catherine's Catholic Church and Altar Society. She was also a member of the Sunny Valley Extension Club.

She was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers, Delbert, Leonard, Herman, Elmer and Clarence Stritt; three sisters, Viola Millard, Louise Broz and Margaret Haag; and daughter-in-law, Lavon Fossen.

Survivors include her husband, Hank Fossen of Indianola; daughter, Marcia and husband, Jeff Sughroue of Indianola; three sons, Kenneth Fossen and wife, Connie of Omaha; Clarence "Topper" Fossen of Indianola and Larry Fossen and wife, Jill of Chaska, Minn.; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Mass of Christian burial took place on Friday, at St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Indianola with the Rev. Nicholas Baker officiating. Burial in St. Catherine's Cemetery.

The rosary was recited Thursday, at Carpenter Funeral Home of Indianola.

Memorials may be given in her name to the Indianola Fire and Ambulance Department.

Carpenter Breland Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
