Pedro Monzon

Pedro “Pete” Monzon died Sunday, March 13, 2005, at Bryan LGH East Hospital in Lincoln. He was 78 years old.

Pete was born in McCook on April 29, 1926, to Jesus and Francisca (Melendez) Monzon. He graduated from McCook High School in 1947 and attended McCook College. He entered the US Navy on March 25, 1944, and served during World War II. He was honorably discharged on April 28, 1946.

On November 25, 1948, he married Bonnie Bee Fitzpatrick in McCook. To this union four sons were born. They made their home in McCook where Pete was employed as an engineer for the railroad. He retired on June 1, 1989.

He was a member of the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. He was a member of the Knight’s of Columbus, Fourth Degree, and Faithful Navigator Fourth Degree.

Pete worked for the Red Willow County Fair Grounds after his retirement. He volunteered many hours for the Toy Box and Coat Closet. He was the recipient of the Community Service Award in 1992.

Preceding him in death were his parents; one sister, Louise Taylor; one brother, Angel Monzon: and nephew Terry Monzon.

Survivors include his wife, Bonnie Monzon of McCook; four sons, Peter Monzon and friend, Jill, of North Platte, Richard Monzon of McCook, Timothy Monzon and wife, Ketty, of Missoula, MT, and Scott Monzon and wife, Terri, of Blair; two brothers, Joe “Peanuts” Monzon and wife, Brenda, of Centennial, CO and Victor “Chico” Monzon and wife, Mary Ellen, of McCook; two sisters, Jennie Jones of Cheyenne, WY and Mary and husband, Kent Seaman, of Mesa, AZ; 7 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials were to be given to the Fair Grounds Community Building Bench Fund.

Rosary was on Thursday, March 17, 2005, 7:00 p.m. at Carpenter Breland Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial took place Friday, March 18, 2005, 10:00 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with Father Jerel Scholl officiating. Burial in Calvary Cemetery with an Honorary Navy Military Committal.

Carpenter Breland Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
