Phyllis Brush

Biography

Phyllis Jean Brush, age 76, of Ogallala and formerly of Hayes Center, passed away on Wednesday, May 18, 2011 in Ogallala.

She was born July 10, 1934 at Curtis, Nebraska, the daughter of Morgan and Ada (Staples) Smith. Phyllis grew up and attended schools in the Curtis area.

On May 18, 1950, Phyllis married Dale Brush at McCook, Nebraska. The couple resided in McCook until moving to a farm east of town. During their married life, they also resided in Kansas and Colorado before returning in 1958 to a farm north of Bartley. In the spring of 1960, they moved into Hayes County and farmed there until moving into Hayes Center in 1974.

In August of 1974, Phyllis began her employment with the Hayes County School District as a bus driver. She continued driving the school bus until her retirement at age sixty-five. Phyllis enjoyed gardening and growing flowers, ceramics, bowling, camping, traveling and volunteering at the Hayes County Senior Center and always took interest in her neighbors.

Survivors include four sons and three daughters; Gary (Jeri) Brush of Sutherland, NE, Rick Brush of Hayes Center, NE, Joyce (Levi) Anderson of North Platte, NE, Vicky (Jim) Giesenhagen of Colby, KS, Allen (Catherine) Brush of North Bend, NE, Kathy (Ron) Howard of North Platte, NE and Robert (Theresa) Brush of McCook, NE; two sisters; Oma Refior of Sutherland, NE and Audrey (Terry) Schultz of Manor, TX; one sister in law, Barbara Smith of Peoria, AZ; one brother in law, Howard Roth of Indianola, NE; twenty-six grandchildren and thirty-four great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dale Brush; three brothers, Joe, Melvin and Herschel Smith; two sisters, Elva Minks and Ula Wood; a granddaughter, Morgann Brush and a grandson, Devin Weitzel.

Visitation will be Sunday at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home from 5-8:00 p.m. with family present to greet friends.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, May 23, 2011 at the Carpenter-Breland Funeral Chapel in McCook with Tom Volz officiating. Burial will be in the Bartley Cemetery.
