Raleigh Haas

Raleigh D. Haas of McCook, NE passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, August 28, 2018, at Great Plains Medical Center in North Platte, NE at the age of 62.

Raleigh was born January 23, 1956 in Ainsworth, NE Richard and Audrey A. (Bratthauer) Haas.  He graduated from Columbus High School in 1974.  Raleigh received his Bachelor of Arts degree in criminal justice from Kearney State College in 1979.

On January 6, 1978, Raleigh married the love of his life, Kathy Kopetzky in Columbus.  The couple was blessed with five children: Jeff, Ryan, Brad, Minda, and Matt.

Raleigh was community oriented and loved to volunteer.  He was a McCook Volunteer firefighter and paramedic, as well as a Teammates Mentor at McCook Public Schools. His entire working career was in public service, in the probation, corrections, and emergency medical services fields.  He loved the Lord and was an active member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and of the Knights of Columbus.

Raleigh enjoyed watching Kansas City Royals baseball and was an avid Nebraska Cornhusker volleyball and football fan.  His two granddaughters, Harper and Willa, were his pride and joy.  One of Raleigh’s favorite pastimes was spending time with Kathy, going on long walks with her and their dogs.  He will be remembered for his willingness to lend a hand and for the kind words he had to offer others.

Raleigh was preceded in death by his father, Richard Haas and his step father, Frank Dee.

Those left to mourn his passing are his wife, Kathy Haas of McCook: his four sons, Jeff Haas of Lincoln, NE, Ryan (Haley) Haas and Brad (Molly) Haas, all of Omaha, NE, and Matt Haas of McCook; his daughter, Minda (Mark) Kuhlmann of Council Bluffs, IA; mother, Audrey Dee of Columbus; brother, Rick (Patty) Haas of Columbus; as well as his two granddaughters, Willa and Harper, and numerous nieces, nephews
