Raymond Roger Evans, age 88, formerly of Wichita Kansas, died Tuesday (February 3, 2009) at St. John's Hospital in Joplin, Missouri.
Raymond was born on February 11, 1920 to Eska Eugene and Minnie O. Evans in Freedom, Nebraska.
Raymond married Glendola A. Scott on September 14, 1942 in Urbana, Illinois and they were married for 61 years.
Raymond received an Honorable Discharge from the United States Army as a pilot. He served in the Army from March 12, 1942 until February 12, 1946 which included two years with the Army Air Force Corps as a First Lieutenant. Raymond piloted and commanded C-47 Military Cargo Aircraft in Asiatic-Pacific Theater of Operations. During his military career he received the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, the American Service Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.
Raymond was preceded in death by his parents, two children in infancy, Joy and Ray Evans, his wife, Glendola Evans and one grandchild, Brandon Evans.
Survivors include one son, Dallas Evans and wife, Reta of Lowell, KS.; one daughter, Judy Hubbard of Wichita KS.; one brother, Eugene Evans and wife Virginia of North Platte, NE.; one sister, Shirley Moore of Salem, OR., 5 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
Services are Saturday, February 7th at 10:00 AM at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home in McCook, NE. with Pastor Frank Penna officiating. Interment is in Hayes Center Cemetery.
Visitation is Friday February 6th until 8 p.m. The family will receive visitors from 7 - 8 p.m. Memorials may be given in his name.
