Retta Berdean (Bearley) Berger

January 8, 1929 — February 5, 2012

Retta Berdean Bearley was born January 8, 1929 in Rawlins County, Kansas. She was the prettiest baby born to Harry Augustus and Effie Verina (Palmer) Bearley. She passed away on February 5, 2012 in Alma, Nebraska where she had resided at the Colonial Villa after suffering a severe stroke in May 2005. She and her family were appreciative of the loving care given her at this facility.

Retta received her religious training at the United Methodist Church in Atwood, Kansas. Her formal education was gained at the Atwood Grade and High Schools and special training was attained at the Colorado Springs Business College in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

David B. Berger and Retta were married February 12, 1950 at the Methodist Church in Atwood, Kansas. Four children were born to this marriage; Bruce David, Michael Steven, Creta Sue and Lynn Allan. There was much noise and laughter when this family was young and many pranks. Lynn was born severely handicapped and when his physical needs couldn’t be met in the home, he was accepted into the Beatrice State Home for the Handicapped where he resided until his death. This situation caused great heartbreak to his mother, father, brothers and sister.

Retta liked living in McCook near her grandchildren. She liked her many friends and especially loved her little dogs and her gardens and flowers.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three sons, Bruce, Mike and Lynn; granddaughter, Amber Rutt; brother, Wilber Robert Bearley; sister, Alberteena (Bearley) Richmond; brother-in-law, Delmar Richmond and sisters-in-law, Kay Bearley, Harriet Bearley and Kathy Bearley.

Retta leaves to mourn her daughter, Creta Rutt and husband, Tom of Clarkston, WA; grandchildren, Ali Rutt, Bryan Berger and Amanda Young; great-grandchildren; brothers; Richard Bearley and Harry Bearley; sister, Effie Fields; aunt, Ellen Palmer; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Memorials may be given to the Alma Colonial Villa Good Samaritan Nursing Home, 719 N Brown Street, Alma, NE 68920-2132. or to Creta Rutt at 2422 12th Street, Clarkston, WA, 99403.

A graveside service will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery, McCook, NE, Saturday, February 11, 2012, at 2:00 p.m. Inurnment will follow the service.
