Richard "Dick" B. Lichty

Richard “Dick” B. Lichty, 73, of McCook died Friday, December 14, 2007 at Community Hospital in McCook.

On May 13, 1934 he was born in Page, Nebraska to Ivan G. and Luella Mae (Anderson) Lichty. He graduated from Walton High School in 1952 and moved to Washington D. C. to work for the FBI in the Fingerprinting Department.

Dick served the U.S. Army in Germany during the Koran Conflict from 1953 to 1955. After an honorable discharge from the Army, he moved to Lincoln and was a Police Detective with the Lincoln Police Department.

He met and married Shirley J. Tenopir in Council Bluffs, Iowa on April 12, 1956. To this union six children were born, Kim, Tami, Kevin, Keith, Todd and Traci.

They moved to McCook in 1962 to work for the Nebraska Department of Roads. He sold feed for the Cooper and Purina feed companies. Before retiring he was a Feed & Fertilizer Inspector for the Nebraska Department of Agriculture for 20 years. Dick worked for the McCook Daily Gazette during his retirement.

He coached Midget and American Legion Baseball and enjoyed his grandchildren, fishing in Canada, hunting and horses.

Dick was a member of the Peace Lutheran Church, the Culbertson VFW, Culbertson American Legion, and the Eagles Club in McCook.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one infant son, Keith Ivan; and a sister, Peggy Hershey.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley of McCook; children, Kim and husband Terry Bauer of Culbertson, Tami and husband Kevin Custer of McCook, Kevin Lichty and wife Jolene of O’Neill, Todd Lichty and wife Kathy of McCook, Traci and husband Bob Hastings of Norfolk; seven grandchildren; and siblings, Phyllis and husband Lloyd Stice of Lincoln, Patty and husband Leonard Garcia of Fruita, Colorado, Denny and wife Karen Lichty of Lincoln, Darrell Lichty of Lincoln and Doug Lichty of Grand Junction, Colorado.

Memorials were to be given in his name.

Funeral services were Tuesday, 10:30 a.m. at Peace Lutheran Church in McCook with Pastor Bradley Rick officiating. His body will be cremated following the service. A private family inurnment was held on Wednesday.

Carpenter Breland Funeral Home of McCook was in charge of the arrangements.
