Robert L. Jackson

Robert L. Jackson, age 80, died Tuesday (August 8, 2006) at McCook Community Hospital.

He was born February 15, 1926 at McCook to Frank and Hazel (Larreau) Jackson at their residence. Hazel later married Leo B. Lehn at Indianola.

Bob attended schools at Oberlin, Kansas, at the age of 16, during his junior year of high school, he decided to enlist in the armed forces of the United States. After Basic Training he was sent to Europe, where he was attached to the 101st Airborne and 94th Infantry.

Bob was in seven different Countries during World War II, under Gen. Patton. After D-day both the 101st and 94th was sent back to the United States, Bob reenlisted and was sent to the 4th Calvary Mechanized Division, as Master Sgt. He spent most of his service time, about 5 years, in Europe. When his time came to be Discharged, at Camp Kilmer New Jersey, September 3rd of 1948, he returned to McCook during the terrible winter of 1948.

He married Virginia F. Gonzales in Atwood, Kansas after her graduation in 1949. Later they renewed their vows at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in McCook. To this union nine children were born. Evelyn, Raymond, Rick, Carol, Bill, Bob, Sharon, Patricia, and LaDonna.

He later married his sister-in-law, Janice E. Lehn at Stockville on May 16, 1990. She had five children, Dick, Barbara, Rosalie, Roderick, Rodney, and Carol.

He was a lifetime member of the North American Hunting Club, lifetime member of the National Rifle Club Association, VFW, and the American Legion. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and enjoyed boating, camping and sports. Bob was a Brick Mason and Masonry Contractor all his years following his service years. Bob loved all very much.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Hazel; his first wife Virginia; daughter, Patricia; step-father, Leo Lehn; two brothers, Bill Jackson, Richard Lehn; sister, Mayme Matterson.

Survivors include his wife, Janice; daughters, Evelyn Atkinson of Lincoln, Carol Pagel and husband, Dennis, of Weston; Sharon McCarville and husband, Tom of Hot Springs, South Dakota, LaDonna Ingram and husband, Mark of Cambridge; sons, Raymond Jackson and wife, Elizabeth, Rick Jackson and wife, Ellen all of Lincoln, Bill Jackson and wife, Michelle of Cambridge, Bob Jackson, Jr. and wife, Joan of Meriden, Wyoming; step-daughters, Barbara Miller, and husband, Jack of Churchton, Maryland, Rosalie Reed and husband, Jerry of Thornton, Colorado, Carol Shackle and husband Tim of Denver; step-sons, Richard Lehn Jr. and wife, Sue, Roderick Lehn and wife, Cindy, Rodney Lehn and wife, Jackie all of Lincoln; a sister, Patricia Finch and husband, Floyd; 38 grandchildren, and 41 great-grandchildren.

Memorials were to be given in his name.

Funeral services were at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home on Monday, August 14, 2006, at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor David Feddern officiating.

Carpenter Breland Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
