Robert C. Sughroue, age 73, died Sunday, October 4, 2009 at Hillcrest Nursing Home.
Robert was born in McCook to Martin C. and Lena (Rayer) Sughroue on March 14, 1936. He graduated from Indianola High School in 1955 and McCook Jr. College in 1957.
He was an Eagle Scout and a standout in athletics. In high school he was involved with state 6-man football, basketball and track. He was also involved in track during college, participating in the National Junior College finals.
He married Gwen in Indianola in 1957. To this union nine children were born, daughters, Barbara, Connie, Janis, Christina, Tracy, Julie and Kara; and sons, Steve and Kent.
He married Patty Shepherd in 1992.
He was a member of St. Catherine's Catholic Church. He farmed in the Indianola Bartley area, and promoted oil exploration in Southwest Nebraska and Northwest Kansas.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Lena; and daughters Janis and Tracy.
He is survived by his sons, Steve Sughroue and wife, Kristine of Culbertson, Kent Sughroue and wife, Deena of Kearney; daughters, Barb Reed of Gretna, Connie Gohl and husband, Jim of Culbertson, Chris Struebing and husband, Steve of Kearney, Julie Sughroue and Kara Sughroue both of Denver; brothers, William Sughroue and wife, Sue of Indianola, Roger Sughroue of Yuma, AZ; sister, Eva Hofman and husband, Dale of McCook; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; special friend, Joyce Bose and family of Cambridge.
Memorials were to be given in his name.
Rosary was on Thursday, October 8, 2009 at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home.
Mass of Christian Burial took place Friday, October 9, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Catherine's Catholic Church with Father Thomas McGuire as Celebrant with burial in St. Catherine's Cemetery.
Carpenter Breland Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
