Robert W. Uerling

Robert William Uerling, age 86, of Indianola, NE passed away Friday, March 4, 2016 at Community Hospital in McCook, NE.

Robert was born January 4, 1930 at the family home in Red Willow County to parents Paul Mathias and Josephine Marie (Goodenkauf) Uerling.  Growing up, Robert attended school at Red Willow, graduating with the class of 1947. Following high school, Robert started farming.

On June 10, 1952 Robert married Claire Elizabeth Anderjaska at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hayes Center, NE.  Over the years, the couple made their home in both rural McCook and rural Indianola.  Robert and his family built their home outside of Indianola where they continued to farm and feed cattle.  Robert and Claire were blessed with seven children.

Robert was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.  He was a 3rd Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus Council 1126 and also served on the H & RW Irrigation District Board for eight years.

Robert enjoyed spending summer days at the lake boating and skiing with his children and their friends. It was the family’s tradition to end those days with a trip to Peter’s Drive Inn for root beer floats.

Robert and Claire also enjoyed traveling to visit family and friends, and see the world.  Among their favorite locations were Alaska and Europe.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Dave Uerling; sister, Florence and husband James Rieck; sister, Lora and husband Mel Noe; and sister, Mary Uerling.

He is survived by his wife, Claire Uerling of the home; twin daughters, Rosann (Tom) Wattonville of Bakersfield, CA and Susanne (Mike) Osberg of Grand Island, NE; daughter, Carol (Mark) Akers of Omaha, NE; son, Mark (Sherri) Uerling of McCook; daughter, Nancy McGrath of Bennington, NE; son, James (Kathy) Uerling of Indianola; and son Ray (Lee) Uerling of Flagstaff, AZ; brother Charles (Betty) Uerling of Ft. Smith, AK; sister, Retha (Richard) Miller of Cody, Wy; sister, Joanne (Ralph) Hinkson of Denver, CO; sister, Marjorie Uerling of Omaha; sister, Jeanne (Terry) Kippen of Denver, CO; sister in law, Cassie Uerling of Ft. Smith, AK;  granddaughter, Melissa (Jason) Wright of Boulder, CO; grandson, Gregory Wattonville of Bakersfield, CA; granddaughter, Bree Wattonville and boyfriend Matthew Prewitt of Bakersfield, CA; grandson, Ryan Wattonville of Boulder, CO; granddaughter, Amy (Seth) Roberts of Dallas, TX; granddaughter, Kristin Osberg and fiance Steven Hannum of Huntington Beach, CA; grandson, Nicholas Osberg of Hayes, KS; grandson, Robert Osberg of Lincoln, NE; granddaughter, Kara (Brad) Hauber of Grant City, MO; grandson, David Akers of ­Florida; grandson Joel (Sarah) Uerling of McCook; grandson, Dustin (Sibyl) Uerling of North Platte, NE; grandson, Brian (Hayley) Uerling of McCook; grandson, Andrew (Jackie) Uerling of McCook; granddaughter, Mattie Uerling of Kearney, NE; grandson, Justin (Mindy) McGrath of Bennington; granddaughter, Rebecca ( Josh) Erickson of Bennington; granddaughter, Sarah McGrath of Omaha; granddaughter, Loretta McGrath of Omaha; grandson, Matthew Uerling of Omaha; grandson, Paul Uerling and fiance Morgan Jones of McCook; granddaughter, Morgan Uerling of Indianola; granddaughter Kori Uerling of Indianola; granddaughter, Savanna (William) Finley of Norfolk, NE; and  grandson, Ryland Uerling and fiance Yessie Leon of Phoenix, AZ; granddaughter, Emily Uerling of Phoenix; and grandson, Quinn Uerling of Flagstaff, AZ.  Other survivors include nineteen great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.

Visitation will be held Monday, March 7, 2016 from 1-6 PM at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home in McCook.

Recitation of the Rosary will follow visitation, beginning at 7:30 PM, Carpenter Breland Funeral Home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, March 8, 2016, 10:30 AM, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in McCook with Father Gary Brethour as Celebrant.

Burial will follow in St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Indianola.

Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Catherine’s Cemetery for the cemetery maintenance.
