Robert LeRoy Wallace of McCook, NE passed away with his family by his side on July 15, 2016 at Community Hospital in McCook. Bob was 71 year old.
Bob was born May 20, 1945 in McCook. He was raised by his mother, Helen Arlene Wallace, and step dad, Guy Darrell Shepherd. He was one of seven siblings. Bob grew up in McCook, attending McCook Public Schools where he later worked as a janitor for thirty seven years.
Bob bravely served his country as a United States Marine from May 6, 1969 to April 6, 1971 when he was honorably discharged.
Following his years of service, Bob returned to McCook where he became active in the McCook Eagles Club. When he wasn’t working as a janitor at McCook Public Schools, Bob enjoyed spending time fishing, polishing rocks, completing crossword puzzles, building model cars and painting by number. His children and grandchildren were his pride and joy, and he loved spending time with them.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Guy and Helen Shepherd; one brother, John Shepherd; and two sisters, Dorothy Peters and Rose Ann Shepherd; and brothers-in-law, Raymond Chancellor and Harry Peters.
He is survived by his sons Ross (Andrea) Wallace of McCook and Robert Leitzow of Colorado; daughter, Rose (Steven) Gerard of McCook; brother, Ronald Wallace of Douglas, NE; two sisters, Helen Chancellor (Mel Hajny) of Bruning , NE and Jessie (Gerald) Manley of McCook; as well as six grandchildren, Travis Wallace, Dakota Gerard, Chantell Gerard, Sidney and Reese Stockhaus and Jayden Wallace.
Visitation for Mr. Wallace will be held on Wednesday, July 20, 2106 from 1 to 4 PM and also on Thursday, July 21, 2016 from 9 AM to 8 PM, all at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home in McCook. Family will be present to greet friends from 5 to 7 PM on Thursday evening.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, July 22, 2016 beginning at 2 PM at Carpenter Breland with Terry McCorkle officiating.
Burial with Military Honors will follow the funeral service in Memorial Park Cemetery, also located in McCook.
Memorial contributions are suggested in Bob’s name.
Carpenter Breland Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
