Robert Lee Ward, age 83, died Thursday August 21, 2008 at Community Hospital in McCook.
He was born August 19, 1925 in Arapahoe to Elmer Edward and Jessie Mae (Bratt) Ward. He attended Hayes Center Public Schools. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1946 and was honorably discharged in 1947.
He married Ruth Elaine Peterson in McCook on April 29, 1951. He farmed and raised cattle. He enjoyed playing pitch and checkers.
Heattended the Evangelical Free Church and Hayes Center American Legion Post #287.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Jessie Ward; son-in-law, Paul Esteraich; nephew, Scott Loomis; two brothers-in-law, Marvin Peterson and Lamoine McKillip; and sister-in-law, Norma Peterson.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth Ward of McCook; two sons, Leigh Ward and friend, Jeannie of Lincoln and Ray Ward of McCook; daughters, Nancy Evans and husband, Mike of Maywood, Beverly Klein and husband, Brent, of McCook; brother-in-law Richard Peterson of Hayes Center; sisters, Jeane Yohe and husband, Harold, Betty McKillip, Hazel Loomis and husband, Jack all of McCook, Irene Oglesby and husband, Richard of Sherman, TX and Becky Busboom and husband, Richard; seven grandchildren, Patrick Evans of Nt. Platte, Amy and husband, Darin Mahoney of Columbus, Jody and husband, Shon Lieske of Hastings, Tanner Evans and wife, Laura, of Kingman, AZ, Rocky Esteraich of Austin, TX, Carly Ward (serving in the Peace Corp stationed in Paraguay, S. America, and Cara Ward of Lincoln; four great-grandchildren, Madison, Brock and Bo Mahoney and Ellyana Lieske; step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Steve and Elizabeth Klein of Elwood, Justin Klein of Arapahoe, Janet and T.J. Hofaker and family, Aaron, Alex, Myia and Terry of Hastings; numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and a host of friends.
Memorials were to be given in his name to the Alzheimer’s Association or McCook Evangelical Free Church.
Funeral services were Monday, August 25, 2008, 2:00 p.m., at McCook Evangelical Free Church with Pastors’ Bruce Lester and Chris Atkins officiating. Burial took place in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Carpenter Breland Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
