Robert Lawrence Baumfalk of McCook, originally of Wauneta, passed away Sunday, March 25, 2012 at Community Hospital in McCook. He was 98 years old.

Robert was born on April 15, 1913 to Hickey Henry and Mary (Hedke) Baumfalk on a farm near Ludell, KS. When he was six years old the family moved to Hitchcock County to a farm north of Stratton where he attended school.

Robert was united in marriage to Dorothy Walgren at Benkelman on January 27, 1937. Two sons were born to this union, Dick and Ronald. They made their home on a farm near Stratton for 18 years. In 1955, they moved to the Walgren farm in Dundy County where they farmed and raised livestock.

In 1974, they purchased a home in Wauneta where they resided for 34 years. Bob worked for Harchelroad Motor's setting up machinery and delivering cars.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church for 60 years. His hobbies included fishing, hunting and gardening. He loved to have his family around him.

In 2008, Bob and Dorothy moved to Willow Ridge Retirement Home in McCook where he was living at the time of his death.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Hickey and Mary Baumfalk; son, Dick Baumfalk; grandson, James Baumfalk; two sisters and seven brothers.

Survivors include his wife of 75 years, Dorothy Baumfalk of McCook; son, Ronald Baumfalk and wife, Nancy, of Aurora, CO; grandchildren, Kent and wife, Sherrill Baumfalk, Michael Baumfalk, Carol Van Ert, and Craig and wife, Vickie Baumfalk; great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Derek Baumfalk and Steven and Sandy Van Ert.

Memorials may be given in his name to the Wauneta United Methodist Church.

Visitation will be Wednesday, March 28, 2012 from 1-8:00 p.m. CT at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home in McCook.

Funeral services will be Thursday, March 29, 2012, 11:00 a.m., MT at Wauneta United Methodist Church with Rev. Bonnie McCord officiating. Cremation will follow the service. A private inurnment will be held later in the Riverside Cemetery, Wauneta.
