Robert "Bob" Henthorn

June 9, 1920 — November 10, 2009

Robert "Bob" W. Henthorn, age 89, died Tuesday, November 10, 2009 at Community Hospital in McCook.

He was born June 9, 1920 to John and Lilly (Blixt) Henthorn in Aurora, Nebraska. He graduated from Aurora High School in 1938.

Bob married Virginia M. Sandberg in Aurora on January 23, 1949. To this union three children were born, Robert, Wendy and Roger.

He was in the U.S. Army Air Force and served during World War II as a top turret gunner on a B-17.

Bob was a member of First Congregational Church, the American Legion, VFW, and the Elks. He was owner of McCook Concrete Company from 1968-1984, and was a Red Willow County Commissioner. Bob enjoyed bowling, hunting, trap shooting and was an avid fan of the Cornhuskers and the Yankees, he thoroughly enjoyed his family and grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Lilly; one brother and two sisters.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia Henthorn; sons, Robert E. Henthorn and wife, Debra of Culbertson, Roger A. Henthorn and wife, Linda of McCook; daughter, Wendy Boukal and husband, Robert of Omaha; grandchildren, Kristopher, Craig, and Alissa Boukal, Drew and Shelby Henthorn, Kyle, Kelly and Kris Clapp; great granddaughter, Kamryn Clapp.

Memorials may be given in his name.

Funeral services will be on Friday, November 13, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at First Congregational Church with Pastor Steve Bales and Pastor Keath Sandberg officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be Thursday 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Family will greet friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
