Roland Hilker

January 29, 1929 — February 9, 2015

Roland Russell Hilker of McCook passed away Monday, February 9, 2015 at Hillcrest Nursing Home. He was 86 years old.

Roland was born on January 29, 1929 at the family home in Holbrook to parents, Theodore "Ted" and Elsie (Schultz) Hilker. He attended Snowball Country School near Holbrook.

On March 20, 1981 he was united in marriage to Linda Pollmann in McCook. They made their home on a farm southwest of McCook where Roland raised hay, corn, wheat and cattle. He was also a self-employed carpenter having built 64 homes before retiring.

Roland was a member of Peace Lutheran Church. He was an avid Husker football and Braves baseball fan. He loved people and never met a stranger. His other interests included bowling, horses, and telling stories and jokes.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Ted and Elsie Hilker; infant son, Tyger Hilker; daughter, Starlyn Ott; father-in-law, John Pollmann; sister-in-law, Joyce Samuelson and son-in-law, Darl Brunner.

Survivors include his wife, Linda Hilker of McCook; daughters, Barbara and husband, David Faimon, of Grand Island, Donita Bruner of Windsor, CO, Nanette and husband, Don Schmid of Chadron, Treanna and husband, Rick Richie of IA; son, Wadelon Hilker of Columbus; brothers, Lyle Hilker and wife, Leona of Oberlin, KS and Terry Hilker and wife, Tammy, of McCook; sisters, Connie and husband, Bob Quaduor of Indianola and Mardel and husband, Charles Miller, of McCook; mother-in-law, Louise Pollmann of McCook; ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of family and friends.

Memorials may be given to the McCook Humane Society, 100 South Street, PO Box 13, McCook, NE 69001.

Visitation will be Thursday, February 12, 2015 from 1:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be Friday, February 13, 2015, 10:30 a.m. at McCook Christian Church with Pastor Clark Bates officiating. Cremation will follow the service. A private family inurnment will be at a later time.
