Ronald Stevens

Ronald F. “Tug” Stevens died Friday, March 25, 2005 at Hillcrest Nursing Home. He was 94 years old.

Tug was born on June 28, 1910, at Indianola, NE to Fred and Maude (Jones) Stevens, the fourth child of four children. He graduated from Indianola High School in 1929.

Tug entered the US Navy on September 14, 1942 and served during World War II. He was a Second Class Baker on the Destroyer USS Charles F. Hughes. He was honorably discharged in 1945.

On November 10, 1940, he married Lorraine “Tiny” Jane Stevens at McCook. To this union two children were born, a daughter, Linda and son Todd. They made their home in Red Willow County where Tug loved farming and trading cars. He retired in 1977. He had been living at Hillcrest Nursing Home for the past five years.

Tug was a 57 and one half year member of the Indianola American Legion Post #0344, past member of the BPOE Elks Lodge #1434, and in 1995 he was awarded the Bronze Leader of the Disabled American Veterans Commanders Club.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Lorraine of 57 years on December 14, 1997; a sister, Catherine in infancy and two sisters, Iva Jones and Myrle Stevens.

Survivors include his daughter, Linda Stevens of McCook; son, Todd Stevens of McCook; nephews, Jim, Jerry and Harold Jones of Denver, CO; niece, Lois Jane Gertner of Olympia, WA; and sister-in-law, Sharlaine Robarchek of Potwin, KS.

Memorials may be given in his name.

Visitation will be Saturday until noon and Monday 9:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friends may go online at www.carpenterbreland.com to extend condolences.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, March 29, 2005, 11:00 a.m. at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home with Clark Bates officiating. Burial will be in the Indianola Cemetery with Indianola Veterans Honor Guard Committal.
