Rose Marie Unger

Rose Marie Unger died Wednesday, April 19, 2006 at McCook Community Hospital. She was 95 years old.

Rose was born on February 25, 1911, at Kearney to William Frederick and Bertha Cedonia (Gartner) Keen. As a child Rose's parents moved from Minden to McCook. She was baptized in April of 1937 by Pastor Wagner at the Lutheran Church northwest of Oberlin. She attended school at Perry.

On January 3, 1930, she married Jacob "Jake" A. Unger at North Platte. To this union five sons were born. She and Jake farmed most of their lives. They retired from the farm in 1972 and moved to Curtis for a short time. They later returned to McCook. Rose was living at Hillcrest Nursing Home at the time of her death.

She was a member of Peace Lutheran Church and Lutheran Ladies Missionary League. She enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening, sewing, knitting and cooking.

Preceding her in death were her parents, William and Bertha Keen; her husband, Jake on July 18, 1984; one daughter-in-law, Irma Unger; four sisters, Edith Robb, Julia Keen, Lulu Short and Anna Belle Stoddard; five brothers, John, George, Henry Ernest, Paul, and Robert Keen.

Survivors include her five sons, Dick A. Unger and wife, Imelda, of Indio, CA, Dale E. Unger of Ackworth, GA, Donald J. Unger and wife, Carol Jean, of St. Joseph, MO, Larry D. Unger and wife, Lola, of Tucson, AZ and Ernest R. "Fred" Unger and wife, Jeanne, of Midvale, UT; ten grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews and family.

Memorials may be given in her name to the National Stroke Foundation or to givers own charity.

Visitation will be Friday until 5:00 p.m., Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until noon, Sunday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Monday morning until 10:00 a.m. Friends may go online at www.carpenterbreland.com to extend condolences.

Funeral services will be Monday, April 24, 2006, 2:00 p.m. at Peace Lutheran Church with Pastor Randy Wahl officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
