Roy was born April 10, 1929 in Fremont, Nebraska to Orval Roy and C. Marie (Jensen) Dixon. He was one of four children, growing up in the Basford Community. Roy entered the United States Air Force on January 4, 1951 at Omaha, Nebraska and was honorably discharged on December 12, 1954. He was stationed in Alaska and served overseas during the Korean War.

There was nothing he could not fix, whether it be carpentry or welding machinery. He always raised a large garden and also started his own vineyard several years ago. Roy did numerous carpentry jobs for his family over the years. Those jobs included adding decks and building garages, while occasionally serving as the general contractor on a project.
Roy enjoyed traveling with his family. Throughout the years he had the opportunity to enjoy several cruises, travels through Europe, Israel and Egypt, as well as deep sea fishing in Alaska.
Roy was a member of the Blackbird Sunday School Union where he served as a Sunday School Superintendent for many years. Later, he and Irene became members of the Evangelical Free Church in Oakland, NE. He served as a board member for Nebraska Christian School’s in Central City, NE, as well as a board member of Camp Assurance in Belden, NE. He was also a member of the Bancroft American Legion Post 191 and the Lyons VFW Post 7998.
