Russell Lynn Gohl of Hayes Center died Wednesday, February 6, 2008 at UNL Medical Center in Omaha after a valiant and courageous battle with cancer. He was 53 years old.
Russ was born on December 12, 1954 in McCook to William F. and Melva A. (Korell) Gohl. He graduated from Hayes Center High School in 1973. He continued his education at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln graduating in 1977.
He returned to Hayes County to farm and ranch. On November 30, 1985, he was united in marriage to Patricia Rae Nelson in Culbertson. To this union three children were born.
Russ was a member of the Culbertson St. Johns Lutheran Church, Hayes Center Booster Club and Sons of American Legion. He was active in the Hayes County 4-H program and Council. He took special pride in his children, youth, sporting events and the Hayes County Fair. Russ was a mentor and inspiration for many, in all aspects of life.
His father, William preceded him in death in 1992.
Survivors include his wife, Patty of Hayes Center; children Mary Rachel, Matthew and Seth all of the home; mother, Melva Gohl of Hayes Center; three brothers, Jerry Gohl of McCook, Tom Gohl and wife, Vickie, of Hayes Center, and Rick Gohl and wife, Bobbie, of Culbertson; mother and father-in-law, Leland and Irene Nelson of Bushnell; sisters-in-law and husbands, Janet and Mike Kuchera of Rose, Carolyn & Paul McMillen of Sidney, Nancy and Gary Ross of Gering, Vicki and Ray Snyder of Bushnell; and brother-in-law and wife Jeff and Kim Nelson of Bushnell; numerous nieces and nephews and an incredible number of dear family and friends.
In lieu of flowers the family requests written memories which they will place in a memory book. Memorials were to be given in his name.
The family had invited everyone to come and celebrate Russells life at the American Legion Building in Hayes Center Sunday evening.
Funeral services were Monday, February 11, 2008, 10:00 a.m. at the Hayes Center High School Gym with Pastor Bradley Rick officiating. Burial took place in the Culbertson Cemetery.
Carpenter Breland Funeral Home of McCook is in charge of the arrangements.
