Ruth Ellen Bridgmon

June 21, 1921 — April 28, 2015

Ruth Ellen Bridgmon, age 93, of McCook passed away peacefully Tuesday, April 28, 2015 at Community Hospital. Ruth had been a resident of Hillcrest for the last six years.

Ruth was born June 21, 1921 at McCook to parents James Arthur and Anna Mary (Gustafson) Brandt. She graduated from McCook High School in 1940.

On October 17, 1942 she married Donald Bridgmon at Oberlin, Kansas. To this union four children were born. She was a busy homemaker and mother as well as an employee for Community Hospital in the Environmental Department.

Ruth was a member of the Nazarene Church, Missionary Society, and taught Sunday school for many years. She also enjoyed sending birthday, anniversary, and sympathy cards to everyone in her church family. Her other hobbies included yardwork, crocheting, cooking and reading. Ruth read her Bible every day, and pray for all of her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Bridgmon; daughter, Lynda Bridgmon; parents, James and Anna Brant; sister, Margie Ely; and two brothers, Carl and Maurice Brandt.

Survivors include her son, David Bridgmon of McCook; daughters, Donna and husband, Walt Fortin, of Oberlin, KS and Diane and husband, Ron Clark, of McCook; brother, John Brant and wife, LaVern, of York, NE; six grandchildren, Marla Kehler, Melissa Nelson, Ryan Fortin, Darin Callan, Derick Callan and Danny Callan; 12 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of family and friends.

Memorials may be given in her name.

Visitation will be Friday, May 1, 2015 from 1:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be on Saturday, May 2, 2015, 10:30 a.m. at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home with Pastor Steve Bales officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
